Developments of Regional Impact:
(DRIs)
Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) are large-scale developments that are likely to have regional effects beyond the local government jurisdiction in which they are located. Specific rules and regulations apply to DRIs to ensure that proposed developments will contribute not only to improved regional mobility and air quality, but also to land use practices.
DRIs:
- DRI studies
LAI Engineering is experienced in performing the comprehensive studies needed to help expedite intergovernmental and regulatory authority review of these large-scale developments.
- New DRI procedures effective May 9, 2008
DRI’s by definition are complex, and the rules and jurisdictions that apply can be daunting to non-experts. The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) has approved new DRI procedures, principles and technical guidelines, effective May 9, 2008, regulating DRIs in these counties: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale. Regional Development Centers (RDC) regulate DRIs in other jurisdictions and may have different rules.
So, whether you are part of a developer team or a local municipality, we highly recommend you consult with an expert on how DRI regulations may apply to your projects.
- Executive briefing available on DRIs

- How long should a DRI review take?
- What about DRIs in areas unable to attain certain air quality standards?
- What are Thresholds And Tiers?
